How To Use A Trail Camera While Hunting

Shopping for the best trail camera for hunting can be quite difficult especially if it’s your first time. Think about this – you have to browse through different brands and models. Each model comes with its own unique features and furthermore, technical terms are used to describe how it works. This is bound to make your shopping experience a daunting task. Want to make the shopping experience much easier. Here are factors to consider.

Trail camera for hunting

Big game hunting is not easy especially if you are after deer. The good news is that you can make your work to be easier. All you need to do is invest in a trail camera for hunting. You can use this for pre-season scouting finally improving your chances.

Animals are creatures of habit. They are known to frequent particular areas. It can be for food, shelter or water among others. In order to gather precise information about animal movement, you need a trail camera. One is not enough. It is advisable to have at least one camera for every 50 to 100 acres. Using your tracking skills and migration pattern information, locate a spot where you think deer frequent.

Once you have identified a suitable post, set up your camera. Using the following tips will allow you to capture precise information. For starters, set the camera 10 to 15 feet from the target area, use a stout tree to prevent dislodging and set it waist high. Ensure that no brush is obstructing the camera or it will result in false triggers especially if you are using a trail camera with motion sensors.

Make sure that your camera is facing North if possible and not East or West. This is because the rays from the rising and setting sun will white-out the images and videos. This is not what you want. You are only after precise information so you need to collect high quality images and videos.

One last thing, avoid areas where fog collects. After a few days, you can check on the camera and retrieve images for later analysis at home. It is important to note the date and time on your images to learn the animal’s pattern.

Deer daily routine

Animal patterns are unpredictable and at times, hours will pass by before an animal comes close to the area. This is why you should look for a camera that provides you with reliable power. Majority of trail cameras are powered by batteries. The standard models are not rechargeable but they can last for 6 months to even a year. The best thing about batteries is that they eliminate the need for wires. You don’t have to draw power using fixed lines just to power your camera. For starters, it’s very costly not only in terms of installation but maintenance and running costs too.

The type of camera determines how much battery power is drained. Flash and cellular cameras are known to drain more power due to the infrared feature. To ensure reliability, it’s highly advisable to purchase rechargeable batteries. While they may be costly, they are much cheaper to run and weatherproof too.

How to pattern deer movement

In photography, resolution or image quality is measured by the number of pixels. If your camera has a higher resolution, your images will be of high quality too. When selecting the best camera, opt for one with more megapixels (MP). For an all round camera that captures images day and night, its best to seek one with 8 MP or higher. There are models that come with 20MP or higher thanks to improved technology. One thing you need to remember is that infrared cameras will capture color photos during the day and black/white photos during the night. So, don’t be surprised when sorting or analyzing the images. This will help you determine the pattern of deer movement with ease.

Trail camera for security

Have you ever contemplated on the idea of keeping an eye on your home, warehouse of office? This idea is solely based on improving security. Furthermore, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your cabin in the woods too. For this to work, you need a fully enabled trail camera for security. For starters, it should be reliable, tamper proof and not prone to bias.

It should be able to record all events in real time as they happen. This will allow you to use the footage as evidence in case you need to sue someone. The best thing about a trail camera is that it gives you a sense of security. Whether you are located in a temporary shelter in the woods or in your home, you can stay a step ahead of dangers around you.
