The wide-angle lens gives a huge 100 degree field of view, almost double what the standard lens offer. This means that the animal will almost always be in shot when the camera triggers, and reduces ‘blank captures’; i.e. when the camera has triggered too late and the animal has moved out of the field of view.
Its also great if you want to monitor as large an area as possible, such as a large garden, and if you are monitoring for security purposes.
It does have a drawback however; notice the blur around the edges of the picture. Although the centre is clear and crisp, there is a clear blur around the outside, and it is slightly under-exposed. This is due to the size of the lens.

you if you need the price not higher
UK stealth cameras seem to cost double or treble what they do in the US – with this in mind the little acorn is good value in the uk. It does do what it says, the results are pleasing & often exciting and it has the bonus of a time-lapse feature . Recommended
product exactly as described. Nice and easy to programme and use. Built in screen enables quick replay and view `in the field`. Clarity in both day and night modes is excellent. Movement sensors work well. A long strap is provided to firmly fix the camera in place. All in all an excellent covert camera. I don`t yet know if battery life is as claimed because I`ve not yet used the camera `live` for more than 48 hrs at a time and only then on about 10 occasions so far. Well worth the price.
Really great product for the price, and the batteries DO last long enough if you get top grade ones. I have taken videos of three hedgehogs enjoying life in our garden (AND cats trying to get into the tunnels for the food which is funny!) My only query is I set the videos to last for one minute but recently they only do about 6 or 8 seconds – not enough to get information so have posted a question hoping someone will explain WHY
Excellent product. Did the job in an allotment polytunnel. Not only did it capture a fox in the early hours of the morning it also caught the 4 young lads who had been causing us problems for a number of months. The images were so clear it was unbelievable even though the humidity was quite high. It also recorded the temperature and humidity etc can’t wait to use it to record blue tits fledging
Fantastic, really clear images even through the night. We found out recently that the local police use them as CCTVs which can be left for about 8 weeks in a location, we saw them as the police installed them.
Only drawback is the setting of the timer etc which took us a while to get right.
It would be good if there was some kind or remote control or monitoring of the camera, and the cover to batteries/controls seem a bit flimsy. But it fits a standard camera tripod fixture, as well as the cover have plenty of places to attach wire or similar to fit in place.
Overall I’m delighted with the device, and I hope to film many more examples or urban wildlife, once I have eliminated the rats.
I had wanted something like this for a while, but prompted by a possible rats nest in the garage, I finally bought one. I set this up, with the default settings, and placed in position. By the morning I had a nice selection of video clips of several rats. The quality of the pictures was excellent, and very few false triggers. The following day I had it pointing at my bird table to take photos of them feeding. I only captured the squirrels eating the food, so not sure whether the birds were avoiding the food, or whether too small to trigger the camera. However the photos of the squirrel was very good, though to be honest I am fed up of rodents at the moment.
Wanted to see what was digging the garden up at night. This showed us! It was badgers….also saw foxes, rats and lots of cats. Has been real fun and batteries last for ages. Once you sus out the settings and field of vision its great.
The camera is excellent and easy to set up even for a relative amateur. Put in the batteries and memory card and set up. Like others have said experiment to avoid whiteout when on infrared night setting but by going about 1 metre above ground will help. Batteries have lasted for several nights and approx 100 shots and still on about 2/3rds. It has been out in torrential rain and no ill effects. The camera has captured several shots of cats coming in the garden it was bought to check on our cat who as gone wild and we have caught her on film eating food left out for her. Overall a good value camera I saw others at twice the price and glad I picked this one.
I love this camera! I initially had a problem working it..it would take a photo when in test mode but once set it did nothing. After contacting the seller (who responded promptly) I tried an 8gb memory card instead of the 16gb that I had in and this seemed to do the trick(don’t know why though?). Now I am getting hundreds of photos and videos of the antics of the birds in my garden. I have it set to 12mp and the quality of photo is really good..some great action shots too!! It has been outdoors in temperatures of -5 and works no problem. Can’t wait for my trip to Canada next year where it will hopefully capture some cougars and bears!!
Make sure for night-time the camera is not too close to the ground as the infrared pictures will be bleached and there is just white on the photo.
What the smallest thing that trips the camera? Mice trip it, so do birds. I was suprised, I’ve got a lot of photos of voles/shrews etc now!!
I failed to mention the screen on the rear of the unit in my review… This is a helpful feature when setting up the camera as its suprisingly hard to tell where the camera is pointing when its up on a tree… all it takes is while the camera is in test mode press the button and a photo is taken, playback the picture on the screen – have you just taken a picture of the sky?
